To relieve road traffic congestion in the town of Camelford, especially during the summer months, CORMAC plan to construct a major bypass route for the A39 to the north and west of the town. Part of this project involves the construction of a major new crossing over the upper valley of the River Camel, requiring an assessment of the aquatic invertebrate communities present within the impacted reach of the river, and associated aquatic habitats within the riparian corridor. This served to both monitor the existing water quality of the upper Camel and establish a baseline prior to works commencing and to evaluate the conservation value of the invertebrate assemblages.
