Portfield, Chichester

Aluco Ecology

The Portfield site on the edge of Chichester was a large area of former gravel workings, containing several settlement lagoons and pits that had subsequently been allowed to flood and form several significant, deep lakes. The area was earmarked for development for housing, in which two of the flooded pits would be retained, one of which was to form the core of a country park, whilst the three settlement lagoons were to be in-filled and lost. As part of the EcIA for the site an assessment of the aquatic invertebrate interest of the settlement lagoons and flooded pits was required, along with a small drainage ditch on the northern boundary of the site.
